Opening Day: When everyone feels like a kid again…

Cheers to baseball fans everywhere who have waited for this day to arrive! There’s nothing like the atmosphere at the ballpark when it comes to sporting events and opening day has that extra charm. It is the one day of the season that brings back every single memory you have of America’s Favorite Pastime.

I always think back to the first Opening Day I remember as a kid in South Florida in 1993, the Florida Marlins first Opening Day as well. I was 9 and we 4th allowed to eat lunch in our classroom that day so that we could keep an eye on the TV as the Marlins were introduced to their brand new fans all over South Florida.

Charlie Hough was going for the Marlins and Orel Hershiser for the Dodgers. It was a day to remember because it gave kids like me the opportunity to become a fan of such a great game. It meant trips to Joe Robbie Stadium all summer long with my family. And of course it also meant the cutest Marlins gameday gear and accessories any little girl could ask for. So cute that my sister Kat and I cleaned up at the school talent show with our bedazzled Marlins jerseys and hats.

The Marlins went on to win the game 6-3 with Jeff Conine going 4-4 on his way to becoming “Mr. Marlin.”
